American Horror Story: Asylum

With True Blood taking a ridiculous and boring turn this season with the Authority I am happy that my other favorite show, American Horror Story, will start it's second season this October. The mysteries and frightful f**kery of the show truly impressed me with unsuspected haunting and making it hard to discern the living from the dead. Not to mention the gore and unapologetic violence and thirst for murder the crazy ghosts of season one demonstrated. Remember Rubber Man

I have been a fan of this show since it's debut last year and now I'm even more excited for season two because Ryan Murphy's baby is like a TV anthology of sorts with a new cast and plot line every season. To me this is genius as it will avoid the story from going stale and will extend it's longevity in the small screen. This season it's all about the Asylum.

The word Asylum alone calls forth a list of emotions identified with nightmares. I mean crazy people mixed with paranormal stuff, what can be better than that right? In American Horror Story: Asylum, we go back in time when Jessica Lange's character, Constance Langdon, was still in her glory days as a 1950's B-list movie star. If you are familiar with the series, you'll know how Constance is so hung up with her unrequited dreams of being a big movie star, now we'll finally see what made this beauty snap!

Here's a snippet from FX's press release and Murphy's explanation about taking us to the Asylum.
When we launched the show last year, we kept quiet about the closed-ended nature of the show because we didn’t want to tip off the audience that the characters were not going to survive. Now that it has been established that each year is a closed-ended story, the time seemed right to reveal what we’re calling the new installment.

We picked Asylum because it not only describes the setting – an insane asylum run by Jessica Lange’s character which was formerly a tuberculosis ward – but also signifies a place of haven for the unloved and the unwanted. This year’s theme is about sanity and tackling real life horrors.
The amazing Jessica Lange returns with Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Zachary Quinto, James Cromwell, and Joseph Fiennes stars this season. I'm going to miss Taissa Farmiga (Violet) and the rest of her crazy family but the stable of future guestings is enough to get me excited. Adam Levine, Jenna Dewan & Franka Potente are some of the names dropped.

  1. I'm on the lookout for new shows to watch and though I shy away from horror stories this one seems like something I'd love. Will check out the trailer in broad daylight where my over active imagination is less likely to make me frightened of my reflection in the mirror. x)

    1. You should add this to your DVR. It's not the supernatural aspect that will get to you but the indiscriminate way they present the difference between what's real or not. Get caught up with S1 and you'll love it if you're into Horror.

  2. o.O I still haven't gotten around to watching this show. I saw the trailers for the first season and I was like "Wow, looks good" cause I love me some thriller/horror, but I rarely watch tv and when I do it's through my computer, so I haven't had a chance to watch this one. Def still interested though. Great post ^_^

    1. This show is good, it might get you paranoid at first withe the ghost haunting. It lives up to the genre, this show is not PNR but real Horror like Psycho.

  3. Have you ever heard of Waverly Hills? It was a TB hospital that was turned into an insane asylum, and it's right here in my area (South end of Louisville). There's a death tunnel and everything. So gross and scary. I am terrified of going there!!! Can't wait for a new AHS, though. The first season was so good I burned the kids' lunch watching the first ep! <3

    1. Yes I've seen a special about that and it is freaking Scary! OMG you should send Greachin there to rot! LOL

I am looking forward to this new AHS season. JLange is an awesome actress plus the theme and setting is the perfect combo for a good horror series. I hope you don't burn anything this time.

  4. I watched a few eps of this, I think the last one I watched was when some weird people came into the house and dressed people up and something to do with a bath tub... I wasn't totally caught by it, but I'm going to give it another go soon.

I agree about TB (I'm watching online from the UK as I usually can't wait for it to get here) the first 2 opening episodes were soooo good, and full of the things I love, mainly naked Eric and blood etc but it's really fizzed out! I need the blood, sex and language, c'mon TB!

    1. That was when they were reenqcting a murderer that took place in that house years ago! That was a good episode.

I don't like this turn of events in TB. It feels so cold and impersonal with those holding cells and fancy staking gadgets. It lost it's Southern charm and feels so manufactured now.
