A tall, dark, single dad Texas rancher finds himself facing more than his stubbornly silent son when the chupacabra, a supposedly mythical blood-sucking beast, starts killing his livestock—and stalking the town’s newly returned veterinary assistant, the sensual woman who ran from the altar and broke his heart twelve years earlier. Determined to purge his sizzling memories of her from his all-too-vivid imagination, he seeks her help to get to the bottom of the disturbing animal mutilations, only to have her break through to his sullen son…and rekindle the love he’d thought was lost forever.

But her refusal to share a terrible secret sends her running straight into the lair of the chupacabra, plunging her back into her worst nightmare, and forcing them both to confront the wrongs of the past in order to stay alive for the future they desperately want.

SACRIFICE  OF PASSION my Melissa Bourbon Ramirez is a romantic story first and a thriller-mystery next, it is about second chances for a couple whom Fate is determined to get together regardless of and a story that'll keep you guessing till the end. Vic Vargas and Delaney West are high school sweethearts whose plans on eloping got thwarted by wrong assumptions leading to tragedy resulting to over a decade of misery, regret, thousands of dollars in therapy mixed with a big bowl of crazy and deadly legends.
This was Delaney West, the girl he'd dreamed about since he was eighteen years old.
The story opens with a suspected chupacabra attack in Vic's ranch then shifts into Delaney's breakdown, by chapter two I thought I had it all figured out thinking that MBRamirez wrote a sweet but predictable story. I tread on because I want to know how it's all going down and how this chupacabra story is relevant to Vic and Delaney's life. By the last five chapters SACRIFICE OF PASSION did a 360 with a string of horrifying clues and jaw dropping revelations! Boy was I wrong and I'm so glad I was! Never did I expect that the chupacabra was That Guy you least expect it to be! Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! This has Lifetime Movie written all over it, you know those addicting romantic thrillers that the network is so good in making? Yeah, SACRIFICE OF PASSION fits that format perfectly. I can see Vic's rugged good looks, his ranch in Texas and Delaney West's defensive vulnerability so clearly in my mind, all I need is a fresh bag of popcorn and some soda.

From the get go there's a cloak of mystery surrounding SACRIFICE OF PASSION and the lisping curandera, Ezperanza, didn't help make matters easier with her eerie predictions and speaking in riddles. I met several "wise women" and witch doctors and I promise you, they're creepy powerful in their own way or just plain weird and disturbing. So throughout the story, you have this old lady spilling warnings, a mysterious mythical creature murdering livestock and people leading to a situation that calls for caution and panic. Side by side this plaguing mystery you have this tragic trifecta going on between Vic, his son Zack and Delaney.
"Without a doubt," Vic affirmed. "She IS The One. Always has been."
Ray frowned at him. "I meant she sounds like the one who's been killing all the livestock. Including your steer."
I loved that MBRamirez added familial relationships to SACRIFICE OF PASSION to highlight Vic and Delaney's past and present relationship. I loved that the bigger picture involves this fragile relationship between father and son and how Vic struggled to bridge this gap between him and Zack while trying to reclaim his relationship with Delaney by mending this huge misunderstanding they had in the past. I loved how protective Ray is of his brother without being overbearing. And lastly I loved how MBRamirez pieced it all together and wrote this engrossing deadly thriller and ardent love story that kept me til late in the evening.

SACRIFICE OF PASSION was a very gratifying read and the Dead Sexy title? EARNED!

Favorite place in the world: Besides my study, where I spend most of my waking hours? LOL Anywhere in my house, really. I'm a homebody and love my family room with the red sofas, colorful striped chairs, and funky ottoman. I'm not all that exciting! I do love Charleston, SC, Monterey, CA, and all of New England, so those places would be tied.

Dream Vacation: Europe, particularly Italy!

Stilettos, flats or wedges: Wedges :)

Coffee or Tea: Coffe. Mocha, to be specific. Venti, with either whipped cream or creamy foam, depending on the day.

Which actor/actress do you want to play your lead characters? Juanes can pretty much play any of my male Latina characters and I'd be thrilled! He'd be an awesome Vic. Or Manny from my Lola Cruz series. As for actress, Sandra Bullock as Harlow Cassidy in my Magical Dressmaking series. Not sure about Lola Cruz. An unknown, I think. Or JLo, a few years back. :) As for Delaney in Sacrifice of Passion, I'm stumped on that one. Do you have ideas?
How about Jessica Chastain for
Delaney West? I am crushing on
her lately plus she's a redhead.
Cats or dogs: Both! We have 2 of each.

Number 1 thing on your bucket list: I need to start making a bucket list! I think I'm really just too boring because I don't have any huge things I want to do except live in really quaint towns. See? Boring.

Guilty pleasures: Chocolate. Afore mentioned mochas.

Currently Reading: The first Amanda Peabody mystery, referred to me by Jenna Bennett. Getting ready to start it tonight!

Favorite villain: The most memorable villains for me are Hannibal Lecter, for sure. I actually don't read tons of romantic suspense, I just like writing it!

Would you ever visit a male strip club? LOL! Watched Magic Mike this weekend, does that count? I would, with good friends and for a good reason. I'm sure we can come up with some good reasons.

Favorite TV show: Dexter. Supernatural. Once Upon a Time. Getting ready to dive into Mad Men. I've never seen it, but my teenage kids love it. LOVED 24.

If you could be anybody, dead or alive, for a day, who would it be and why? Can if be fictional? If so, I'd choose Scarlett O'Hara just to walk in her shoes, meet Rhett Butler, and see what it feels like to be this iconic character.

Thanks so much for having me here today!
Muchos gracias Melissa for playing along our little Q&A!

  1. I kinda love Lifetime movies... This isn't a book I would pick up on my own, but that's what I love about book blogging. I stop by to return a comment, see a review for a book that I don't think would be my thing, but read the review anyway, and next thing I know I'm DYING to know more about this story! Unsuspected twists and characters that have known each other for a very long time... yep, it DOES sound good!

    1. Same here, blogging made me leave my comfort zone and discover these other writers and genres that I wouldn't have explored before.

Dead Sexy books are really good, I highly recommend it :)

  2. I am still stuck in my comfort zone. I am trying to branch out. This book does look really good but I am afraid I wouldn't like it just because it isn't in my normal genre. I am just so confused. lol
