Fear is sabotage’s sweetest weapon.
Kate has no time for meaningless romantic charades, and definitely no time for hot college professors who are full of themselves and smitten with her. Constantly battling eviction notices, tuition she can’t afford, and a sick, dependent mother, the last thing she needs is to be distracted with someone else’s complicated baggage.
When she stumbles into Ryan Campbell’s creative writing class, he is only “Mr. Campbell” to her, until Ryan finds himself captivated by her writing and she is forced to face their mutual attraction. His cocky know-it-all syndrome is enough to send her running in the other direction, and his posse of female admirers and playboy reputation are enough to squander any odds in her favor.
But underneath Ryan’s abrasive facade is something to behold, and she can’t stay away for long. Ryan and Kate must decide who they’re willing to become and fight against their former selves if they want to make things work. That’s if academia, vicious vixens, old skeletons, and their own mastery at self-destruction don’t pummel their efforts first.
DISCLAIMER:
Due to the strong sexual content of the story and borrowed quotes, this book and the corresponding review is recommended for readers 18 and up.
Have you ever had a hot teacher, instructor, professor that made you fantasize about doing the nasty instead of paying attention in class? Well if you had one of those but didn't have the balls to carry out that fantasy, well you can live it vicariously through Rachel Wade's PRESERVATION.
The story opens with Ryan Campbell's POV when he caught his then fiancee, Jamie, cheating on him with his prospective book agent. That unfortunate event kick started a myriad of events which led him to the classroom where he met Kate. I initially thought that the story was going to be told in a male perspective which is an exciting thought because there aren't a lot of sexy reads told in a man's POV.
And don't preach your slut speech to me. If you've been with him, you're no different than all the rest. I'm sure. Sorry he didn't want you, but take that up with him, not me.
Alas I was disappointed because Ryan ended up just bookending the story. But this didn't burst my bubble altogether, I still got to live out that fantasy through Kate. Ryan is a hot and smart professor inked with Poe-inspired raven tattoos complete with youth, washboard abs and a swimmer's lean body. Kate is pretty but she sounds normal which makes connecting with this book much easier. In fact I envy Kate because she stuck with her guns and laid out the rules, she's not ready for a relationship so if Ryan wants her it has to be a friends-with-benefits kind of thing.
My problem with this was the flow of the story was a little bumpy and it was hard for me to really like Ryan. He's a player and honestly in some scenes he turned me off a bit, as a playboy I was expecting him to be smoother not oily. He's a man whore and saving Kate from a disastrous event felt too coincidental and didn't win me over completely.
Anyway, PRESERVATION is an entertaining read and if you're looking for something sexy, you might want to give this one a try.

It was an ok read, I guess my rating has more to do with my own expectations than the writing itself. I was imagining my old professor I used to have a crush on and he was articulate, scholarly and classy and that's not how I'd describe Ryan. He's tatted up, young and a playboy. But I still ENCOURAGE you to read it just for the sake of living the experience out, sort of.
DeleteThis sounds pretty interesting. I think I would enjoy seeing how the relationship develops between the characters.
ReplyDeleteIt's fast, furious, lusty and very carnal
