Welcome Back to the Sugar Shack

Straitlaced . . .
Chicago prosecutor Kelly Silverthorne has a perfect record in the courtroom and a big fat zero in the bedroom. When she loses her first case ever, she returns home to Deer Lick, Montana, to regain her confidence and shake off the "Sister Serious" moniker she's been stuck with since childhood. Only a few hours into her repentance, karma thrusts her face-to-face with yet another of her major fiascos—a one-night stand with the hottest cop in the county.

Rebel with a Cause . . .
Deputy James Harley has always played with fire. When smart and sexy Kelly pops back into his life, he doesn't mind going for a full burn. And that might be exactly what happens when his past threatens to catch up with his future.

A Match Made in . . .
Heaven only knows what Kelly's dearly departed mom has planned from the other side—especially since she's already meddled in Kelly's siblings' love lives. But even heaven knows that when love comes
This is one of those feel good, sappy and a tad sexy romance novels I sometimes like to immerse myself in. Kelly and James had a one night stand in Kate's, Kelly's sister, wedding and since then they remain attracted to each other. When Kelly came back to Deer Lick, Montana on a break, she once again crossed paths with James. Both found out that their attraction to each other is too powerful to ignore and what started as a fling turned into a sweet HEA.

What I liked and envied about this is Letty Silverthorne, Kelly's departed mother, and her old Buick which she haunts. Tom Jones' It's Not Unusual heralds her presence and Letty would dole out advice to her children from the backseat. I know it sounds a little corny but part of me is wishing that my mom can do that too minus the creepy, pee-in-your-pants, factor. LOL
Our mother is dead. Yet she's still floating around in the backseat of her car because she can't bear to move on until we're all happy in our lives.
Kelly is a likable enough character and James isn't exactly my type but he's not bad either. James has a lot going on in his life, his mother is sick and his younger brother, Alex, is a trouble maker. Don't get me wrong, James sounds handsome and he and Kelly turned up the heat but from a selfish POV I wish there's more banter between these two. There were times when it felt too urgent and rushed and I wish they took it slow a little and allowed me to fall in love with them too. But what I do like about James is he didn't take advantage of Kelly and really went out of his way to win her.

This short and sweet read at 18 chapters is what I needed to keep me occupied on a slow day. And I liked that CTerry wrote the story in alternating POV's, I like books where we're let inside the guy's head and made privy to their dirty thoughts and filtered reactions. And for Sugar Shack fans, I think you'll love this because Kate and Dean made appearances and I'm pretty sure you'll be loving Kate's mini story line in this one. Plus looking at the ending it seems like we'll be reading for of Letty and I think there will be more Sugar Shack stories to come.
