In New York City, 1897, life has never been more thrilling - or dangerous.

Sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne and her "straynge band of mysfits" have journeyed from London to America to rescue their friend Jasper, hauled off by bounty hunters. But Jasper is in the clutches of a devious former friend demanding a trade-the dangerous device Jasper stole from him...for the life of the girl Jasper loves.

One false move from Jasper and the strange clockwork collar around Mei's neck tightens. And tightens.

Book two of Kady CrossSteampunk Chronicles, THE GIRL IN THE CLOCKWORK COLLAR is even better than its predecessor, The Girl in the Steel Corset. Following the events in book 1, KCross takes us to America as Griffin, Finley and the rest of his renegade gang help out their cowboy friend, Jasper Renn, get out from a sticky situation.
"Are you crying? My face if wet.""Of course not," she lied. "Sam was here before me. It must have been him."
At first I was a little wary about the mention of cowboys and taking Griffin's good looking crew to America but much to my chagrin I ended up having a blast. Speaking of Griffin, the young Duke of Greythorne is one swoon worthy aristocrat, he got my knickers in a bunch when he's in his penguin suit! No wonder American heiresses like Miss Astor-Prynn was falling head over heels for Griffin but thank God his eyes and affections are for Finley and Finley alone.

Finley scared me a little in this book, now that her two halves have merged I wonder if her actions are driven by her dark side or if this is the new her. She's all brawn, sassy and feisty in this book, no qualms about breaking someone's neck, getting into fights and infiltrating a notorious gang via ring match a la Fight Club! And though I love her cat fights with Mei, I wish that KCross rewrites the ending and have them go head to head instead.
Miss Astor-Prynn, I wish you every happiness in your life. I believe you do not have many of them. But I can honestly and without regret inform you that, even if I were inclined to marry at my age, you would be the absolute last girl I would think of spending the rest of my days with. -- Griffin King
THE GIRL IN THE CLOCKWORK COLLAR is packed with action, there were instances wherein I wanted to jump into the pages and join in the brawl! KCross outdid herself in this one, the conflict/resolution made my head spin and I must admit that I really hated the villains, that's a good sign of effective writing on my book. Hopefully when she writes book 3, she keeps Emilie Autumn, Amanda Palmer & My Chemical Romance in the background so the story keeps its kick ass factor.

  2. Love the quotes..*nods* ..yes Miss Finley is kicking that little butt of hers all over the seedier side of New York. I loved Wildcat too...I would like her to take a trip to England, I think she could be fun:D

I love your choice of artists to add that special flavour to the background. Visually I do so much enjoy Kady's writing, we see her Steampunk world she builds very clearly.Griffin shirtless is also visually rather delish...yet he is unconscious..ah well:D

Wonderful thoughts on this exciting series. I did miss me some J though....

    1. The novella, The Strange Case of Finley Jane, is free on amazon. That might help you decide if the series is up your alley or not.
