Family secrets must be kept, and painful wounds must be ignored.

After an all-out assault by a vicious terrorist bent on destroying her entire family, a former government agent must break the strict rules she has always lived by when she emerges from hiding to reluctantly accept the help of her all-too-sexy ex-lover. Running a deadly race against time, they rush to rescue her kidnapped sister, find her missing father, and bring the notorious villain to justice. But nothing ever goes as planned. Bullets fly, danger abounds, and their passion reignites even faster than the lies are flowing. But their stubbornly held secrets just might spell the end of their rekindled love and hopes for the well as their very lives.
I've seen a barrage of cover reveals last week for DEADLY SECRETS, LOVING LIES the latest Cynthia Cooke novel. Of course my interest was piqued which prompted me to get this 70k words book, the first in the yet to be named series.

I already started asking questions from the get-go like: Who or what is Genie? Who are her enemies that made her hide in the middle of the dessert and live in a fortress she calls home? What supernatural power is Cynthia Cooke alluding to? What is Genie hiding? What are her secrets so deadly and lies so loving that she's willing to cut herself off from the world?

"I can't seem to shake you can I?" Genie to Kyle
"I'm the proverbial albatross around your neck."

Blond bombshell Genie is one-third of a set of triplets who have psychic capabilities and someone wants to exploit their gifts for their own selfish reasons. The theme of the story is your staple mystery/suspense thriller: vendetta, grief, revenge and an intriguing whodunit element that will keep you riveted til the end. There's no lack of car chases, big guns and powerful ammunition, pointing fingers and first class espionage to keep me in a reading trance. I no longer remember the number of times I changed my mind on who I thought was the villain. My choices ranged from Genie's father to her sister to the big federal department called CTA (National Counter-Terrorism Agency).

"A very big boy," he murmured low in her ear.
"I'm aware of that, too." Her voice caught, even more of her defenses crumbling.
"Are you sure? Maybe I need to remind you..."

Aside from the cold-sweat-nervous-excitement mix, the love-hate relationship between Genie and her (ex) boyfriend, Kyle, is also worthy of attention. I developed a crush on Kyle not only for his  dark brown hair and deep blue eyes, action star good looks and mad skills (both in the bedroom and field) but also because of his devotion to Genie. I can't even phrase my words right because I get tongue tied just thinking about their hot and heavy affair! Theirs is one of those relationships where they are still so madly in love with each other but they insist on doing what's "right" which resulted to pent-up passion waiting to explode like a volcano. And explode they did. Like lava-hot eruption.

DEADLY SECRETS,  was a pleasant surprise and an interesting find. If you are still unconvinced, think of the now defunct series Alias during its heyday, THAT'S how good this is.

Favorite place in the world: That's tough. I love so many different places. Favorite place would have to be at home when my kids are visiting over the holidays.

Dream Vacation: Anywhere warm and tropical where I can dive. I love scuba diving, and if I ever win the lotto that's where you will find me, somewhere where I can dive every day. I must be part mermaid.

Stilettos, flats or wedges: Flats, though I do have a pair of wedges if I want to look like I dressed up a little. I do not own a pair of Stilettos, though. My feet hurt just thinking about them.

Coffee or Tea: Both! I live in the south, so I have coffee in the morning and iced tea for the rest of the day. I'm a transplant from California though, so I don't drink 100% sweet, but I've been inching closer and closer toward it with each passing year.

Which actor/actress do you want to play your lead characters? I can't help thinking of Angelina Jolie, because it is such a Mr. and Mrs. Smith kind of book. And after much debate, I've decided on Paul Walker from the Fast and the Furious. He is just sooooo hot! And he looks just like I envisioned Kyle, with that impish smile that says he's knows what you're up to, but he's just such a great guy he's going to let you get by with it. This time. Adorable!

Cats or dogs: I have 1 cat and 2 dogs, and while my dogs are adorable, it's the cat I like to snuggle with when watching tv. I call it our kitty-cat-cuddle-time. ;) The dogs are terribly jealous. Luckily, my husband is a dog person.

Number 1 thing on your bucket list: I don't have one. But if I did, I think it would be to dive in Belize. Or spend a summer in Juneau, Alaska. Or visit the Castles in Germany, or trace my ancestors in Sicily. Now, I suppose you can see why I don't have one. ;) I would never be able to decide on number 1.
Guilty pleasures: Chips and Salsa and General Hospital = Heaven!

Currently Reading: I just finished reading CJ Lyons Shadow Ops books 1 and 2 -- Loved them! I'm also listening to Stephanie Bond's Kill The Competition - the structure is different than I'm used to, as the female friendships are the focal point of the mystery, but I'm really loving it. I like to shake things up a bit.

Favorite villain: The clown monster, Pennywise, from IT

Would you ever visit a male strip club: I have, but honestly don't remember too much. ;)

Favorite TV show: Oh, there are so many. But I really miss Medium.

If you could be anybody, dead or alive, for a day, who would it be and why? Joseph Campbell. I just wish I could live inside his mind for a day. He is a truly fascinating man. I also wish I could transport myself back in time and just take some of his classes. Such a brilliant mind.

Thank you!

Thanks for your candid answers, Cynthia!

  6. Thanks for answering our questions Cynthia! Love the answer for the bucket list question. Been to Germany and saw 2 castles. Would love to go back and go on the Black Forest / Castle tour which makes a stop at Neuschwanstein Castle.

Oh, and General Hospital was totally my guilty pleasure when I was in high school/college. Is Jason and Sonny still on that show?

    1. Good morning!! Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July!! :) When I get to Germany (hopefully someday!) I will definitely make sure I put that Black Forest tour on my list. I read a book ages ago (thinking historical gothic - I loved those as a teen) that took place in the Black Forest. And yes, Jason and Sonny are still the front runners of GH. Jason is so sexy, I love, love, love him!! ;) I stopped watching for about 6 years, but started up again when Brenda came back. She's gone now, but I'm hooked again!!

    2. I only wished I had more time in Germany when I went. They have to many great castles to visit.

I can't believe Sonny & Jason are still there but actors in those shows are lifetimers. I'm sure Jason is still hot. I even remember when Jason was still good before he went into the mob with Sonny. Wow....that was so long ago. My grandmother actually got me into soaps. She was a huge Young and the Restless and Bold & the Beautofil fan. She got me hooked at a young age. I think I was about 8 or 9 when I started watching them. LMAO!

  7. I just finished this for the blog tour and it is 336 pages on my digital reader:D I enjoyed this. Great review, again..hehe!! I did a double take, then I realised you have the q & a with Cynthia:D I have interview 9th July. Great finding fun facts out about authors:D
