When Kiera and her friends return from the dead, they soon realise that the world is not the same – it has been pushed. Returning to Hallowed Manor, Kiera soon learns that it’s not only the world that has changed, she is changing, too.

Asked to help solve the murder of missing school teacher, Emily Clarke, Kiera and her friends soon discover that they are now living in a world where humans and wolves live together, sharing a fragile peace.

But during her investigations, Kiera soon discovers that the world is now a much darker and dangerous place than the one she left behind.

Honestly after things wrapped up in Vampire Hollows, I was skeptical about DEAD FLESH. Everybody SPOILER! died and now they're back as Angels? I mean I was thinking What kind of story development is this? They died now they're back as Angels, is Tim losing it? Needless to say I was ready to give this one a bad rating, I mean look at the cover! Does that chick look like an Angel to you?! But of course I was dumb enough to think Tim actually would mess this series up.

It's like the world has been pushed off course

So we find Kiera, Isidor, Kayla and Potter resurrected and back in Hallowed Manor but things aren't quite what it seems to be. It's like they're in an alternate universe and the town they're in is a version of the real thing. In this world, the Lycanthrope rules and there is a delicate balance between men and these beasts that can be upset by a single, miscalculated move. Lycanthropes now openly "match" with humans, children and teens are sent to Ravenwood School and here they are groomed and wait for a wolf to pick them. The process is creepy and not your typical bite/transform routine.

I like LOVE this book, though I'm still uncertain where Mr. O'Rourke is planning to go with this series because it sort of goes back to the basics. I fell in love with Kiera because she can see and solve crimes, she is a walking CSI which never ceases to amaze me. Aside from starting back at one, there is an emotional firestorm going on in this especially with Kayla, who is incidentally the lead in this book. She is haunted by the aftermath of judgement lapse in Vampire Hollows which makes her a little desperate to redeem herself.

Here we are trying to figure out what the fuck has happened since coming back from the dead and you've got numb-nuts over here Googling the greatest hits of Michael Jackson..." Potter

By the story's end, it all goes back to Kiera's destiny which makes me wonder, is this story a dream sequence or what? What happened to the Vampyrus? It has that Devil's Advocate (Keanu Reeves, Al Pacino,1997) feel to it, Kiera is once again faced with the dilemma of her destiny and it seems the loop won't stop until she's made a solid choice.

So many questions but the answers are so few. Ugh!
