What if the hottest guy in the world was hiding a nameless evil, and all he wanted was you?

At the start of this heart-pounding new installment of the bestselling House of Night series, Zoey’s friends have her back again and Stevie Rae and the red fledglings aren’t Neferet’s secrets any longer. But an unexpected danger has emerged. Neferet guards her powerful new consort, Kalona, and no one at the House of Night seems to understand the threat he poses. Kalona looks gorgeous, and he has the House of Night under his spell. A past life holds the key to breaking his rapidly spreading influence, but what if this past life shows Zoey secrets she doesn’t want to hear and truths she can’t face?

On the run and holed up in Tulsa’s Prohibition-era tunnels, Zoey and her gang must discover a way to deal with something that might bring them all down. Meanwhile, Zoey has a few other little problems. The red fledglings have cleaned up well – they’ve even managed to make the dark, creepy tunnels feel more like home – but are they really as friendly as they seem? On the boyfriend front, Zoey has a chance to make things right with super-hot ex-, Erik, but she can’t stop thinking about Stark, the archer who died in her arms after one unforgettable night, and she is driven to try to save him from Neferet’s sinister influence at all costs. Will anyone believe the power evil has to hide among us?

Before I move on with my thoughts about the story, what in the world is happening to Zoey's lovelife? I mean the staple YA scenario is a triangle, but this is becoming a quadrant of sorts. I understand that teenagers are fickle when it comes to love but Zoey's is becoming ridiculous with each book. I guess I shouldn't take this seriously and instead just look at it as a comedy of horror or something. LOL

Anyway, so here our characters are growing into their powers. I find it peculiar that Nyx, a hands on Goddess, would choose fledglings for her new council and not give the full fledged Vampires any warning or notice that Zoey and friends are the real deal. I mean gifting powerful abilities to teenagers will surely make adult Vampires skeptics. Not only are their judgment flawed because of their age but some would certainly feel threatened by Nyx's blessings on the young 'uns.

And then a powerful Priestess just got killed and for some reason the High Council didn't investigate the matter nor found it weird that someone as old and wise as Shekinah just bit the dust in some weird ritual. Plus the little rebellion led by our heroine and the sudden appearance of Erebus and Nyx (?) incarnations should definitely make the Vampire High Council take notice. Right? Again the real Nyx is absent from all of this, I would think that she would at least give advice to some of her chosen that her nth coming is in the works. Otherwise these "wise ones" should know it's all a sham.

The momentum of the story for me got stunted here. Maybe the mother-daughter duo didn't brainstorm throughout the production of this book which resulted to some inconsistencies in the make up of their characters. We'll see if it picks up again in Burned.

  1. This is kind of why I love Stevie Rae, like her character is so much better. Ethan did this unbelievable flip in his character...I was like WT??? Then the juggling men/boys..I was like hang on now ...whoah joey!!!

This is the only series that I have not been able to review..it had me all over the place...I just wonder if it is my age?? I just adored Burned and I yelled "This is what I am talking about!!" I think I have been afraid to read Awakened in case it dipped again.

I know it is a best seller this series, so I wonder if it is me??? Hell I haven't sold a book, so really...........I can't talk:)
