Zoey is finally home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side, and preparing to face off against Neferet - which would be a whole lot easier if the High Counsel saw the ex-High Priestess for what she really is. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx's gift of a human form, Rephaim and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together - if he can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father's shadow...

But there are new forces at work at the House of Night. An influx of humans, including Lenobia's handsome horse whisperer, threatens their precarious stability. And then there's the mysterious Aurox, a jaw-droppingly gorgeous teen boy who is actually more - or possibly less - than human. Only Neferet knows he was created to be her greatest weapon. But Zoey can sense the part of his soul that remains human, the compassion that wars with his Dark calling. And there's something strangely familiar about him...

Will Neferet's true nature be revealed before she succeeds in silencing them all? And will Zoey be able to touch Aurox's humanity in time to protect him - and everyone - from his own fate? Find out what's destined in the next thrilling chapter of the House of Night series.
Thank goddess at least the story realigned itself!

Let me start with my gripes first so I can close this post with the good stuff.

I'm still not getting this Aurox/Heath arc that the Casts are selling us. From a reader standpoint we all know that Aurox is nothing but a decorative villain because in the end Heath and his love for Zoey will prevail. Letting us in on that little secret did nothing for me in relation to the story. So the joke is on Neferet but she's not the one reading and gripping the seat in suspense right?

Next, Stevie Rae and Rephaim is starting to feel redundant. She's Zoey's BFF so let's make her a High Priestess too and give her a hunky boyfriend so she won't feel left out. Again Zoey's clique all have these special powers about them, why not just remove the current vampire council and replace them with these fledglings? They've all been blessed by Nyx anyway. It's getting too cliquey for my taste that their judgement is being clouded by it.

Now for the things that I liked, good enough to for me to give this book 4 cauldrons.

I'm still a fan of Aphrodite. Her biting comebacks never ceases to amuse me.

I like that the Twins Shaunee and Erin are coming out of the woodwork. Their mind connection is getting old and they need their own personalities. Shaunee's reaction to the fallout is normal, she wanted something for herself and now that I'm getting to know her better, I actually like her.

But the best part is the Casts didn't drag Neferet's involvement in the murder of Zoey's mother by giving Zoey some wild goose chase. Neferet is about to get served and Zoey's got her nailed this time. Dragon's death was sad but fitting, his bitterness and self-destruct mode doesn't fit the picture.

Not only this but Kalona is in some sort of alliance with the Vampire Council to bring Neferet down. Maybe he'll have Nyx's blessing again in Hidden (October 16, 2012)? But I'm more excited for Neferet's Curse, too bad it doesn't come out til February 2013.

  3. Oh it wasn't all smooth for me, the first 3 or 4 books before this really annoyed me, I was just glad that it bounced back a bin in Destined so you guys are good, you didn't really miss out on a lot.

  6. I had to come back and re comment..lolz.. the newest HON is coming out in a week or so I have yet to finish this.
I think the Auorox/Heath arc is ridiculous! Neferets "beastiality" is creepy too. They make her dealings w/the bull sound sensual. Ick.
I think they need to integrate w/the school kids, this living under the depot makes them seem so cliquey and better than and "we are so special, our issues are so unique you ppl won't understand"
Aphrodite needs to be vamp again.
how was she re humanized? I forgot! Its been awhile..
Dragon become so damned bitter it was a downer to any scene he was in. His novella was a downer too.
Lenobia-is this new horse wrangler her old lover from NOLA?
