Writer Wrangler: Allison Cassatta & Book Giveaway

It's another episode of Writer Wrangler here in Talk Supe and today
Allison Cassata of Evernight: Romance in the world of Darkness
is here to take us behind-the-scenes of her romantica anthology.

What made you decide to make an anthology instead of a full length novel?
I had the idea of Angel With Devil Wings in mind and had most of it written, but I didn’t see it being a full length novel, mainly because I am currently working on the second novel in my series, The Immortals Saga, and I knew it would take too long to try to write that story as a novel. Honestly, the anthology idea hit me and within fifteen minutes, I’d emailed the acquisitions editor for XoXo and pitched the idea to her. She loved it and told me to go with it.
Can you tell us more about the the selection process for the stories to be published?
Through Facebook, I’ve met a ton of really good story tellers and I thought if I gave them an opportunity to be published, then a lot of them would really stand up and shine. My friends didn’t let me down at all. Some of them took a good bit of prodding. I had a lot of “but I’m not good enough” responses, but in the end, they really came through. Basically, the way it worked, I threw the idea out there, told them the requirements and said, “Now… go write!” I had a lot of good stories and a lot that had the potential to be great.
What inspired you to write about Fallen Angels?
The fallen angels have always fascinated me. The nephilim and the story of Lilith and the book of Enoch, all very interesting and I’m not even Christian. Their history is so complex and I thought, let’s put a paranormal, romantic spin on it and see what happens. AWDW happened, and no, the story isn’t complete. Be on the lookout for Evernight Vol 2, coming sometime next year. Dani and Gabriel’s story will continue!

Angel with Devil Wings is not sexy but erotic, do you consider yourself an erotica writer?
Actually, no. I normally don’t do erotica. Yes, most of my stories have sex in them… okay, all of them have some degree of sex in them, but they are all classic romances. I wanted to put together an Anthology that was more erotica than romance because fans kept pushing me to write more sex. So, this was my way of giving them what they asked for, while still trying to keep a hint of romanticism in there.
Are your other works as provocative as the short story?
Honestly, I don’t think so. I think the only one that comes close, at this point, is Sins of the Heart. The next one coming out in Jan/Feb 2012 from Dreamspinner probably has about the same amount of heat to it titled Kissing is Easy...
In Evernight, though the stories are short it doesn't lack in steam, was this a requirement in your anthology?
These were the requirements: Relationships must be heterosexual in nature. Though bi-sexuality is allowed, the HEA (happily ever after) couple must be hetero. This is going to be an erotic anthology with a dark/gothic them. The main character/characters must go through some tragedy or strife, must overcome something in order for them to have their HEA. Submissions should be no longer than 6k words and must be no shorter than 4,500 words.

When we read to submissions, we chose the ones that best fit those requirement.
Can you tell us more about The Witch's Familiar and Immortal?
The Witch’s Familiar is a sweet little lesbian romance about a young woman who comes from a long line of witches and she’d recently lost her mother and grandmother due to illness. But, because of their beliefs, the women refused to see doctors. Well, during her time of morning, she turns to her best friend who is… well, BLAH… and yeah, I’m not giving anymore away, but it’s an adorable story and the women have to overcome a lot to have their HEA.
Immortal was my first full-length novel. It’s about a girl from a small, southern town who falls for a vampire and finds herself running for her life, and the life of their child. There are a ton of unexpected twists and turns and some really heinous bad guys, but it turned out to be a fun romantic thriller. The second book is in the works. I expect to have it finished in the next month or so.
Where can we follow your work?
http://www.allisoncassatta.com/ or Facebook or Google+ or Goodreads… I try to be all over the place!
Any other upcoming projects?
XoXo is releasing another M/M romance called, From Ashes to Flame in November. It’s another one with Guardian Angels. And Dreamspinner Press is releasing Kissing is Easy… at the beginning of 2012. It’s about two guys who have been friends all their lives. One is realizing he’s in love with the other one, though he didn’t know his friend had been gay the entire time. As I said before, the second Immortal book is coming and it will be called Dhamphir, as well as volume 2 of Evernight. That will be released sometime next year as well.
