When Sam met Grace, he was a wolf and she was a girl. Eventually he found a way to become a boy, and their loved moved from curious distance to the intense closeness of shared lives.

That should have been the end of their story. But Grace was not meant to stay human. Now she is the wolf. And the wolves of Mercy Falls are about to be kill in one final, spectacular hunt.

Sam would do anything for Grace. But can one boy and one love really change a hostile, predatory world? The past, the present, and the future are about to collide in one pure moment - a moment of death or life, farewell or forever. The final chapter of The Wolves of Mercy Falls Trilogy is more of a question than a statement. But like most of you who've read all three books, I'd like to believe too that they indeed lived full lives happily every after.

In Linger, we left Grace as a wolf and her changes are still unpredictable. But because of the nature of her disappearance, Sam is now the prime suspect of a possible abduction and it doesn't help that his father, Beck, is also MIA. Given Sam's background of violence, it's no wonder that the police and Grace's parents are hot on his heels.

Things get complicated when Olivia's body was found near Sam's place obviously mangled by wolves. Now Tom Culpeper, Isabel and Jack's dad, are bent on getting the wolves annihilated from Mercy Falls.

It is now Sam, Cole and Isabel's mission to save Grace and the rest of the pack from that disastrous fate.

When you're gone, the pieces of my heart are missing you... When you're gone, the face I came to know is missing too...
Not to be melodramatic but it's just a coincidence that this song was playing in the background while I was reading the last 60 pages of Forever. The trilogy wasn't a disappointment, the pace and feel of the story was pretty consistent and I failed to mention this in my Linger review but how cool is it that the font color of the books match the covers?!?! Green for Linger and maroon for Forever! You might say that it's just a font color but apparently aesthetics do count especially when you're not expecting it. So good thinking to the one who came up with that "cute" idea. At least for my part I certainly appreciated it.

There's so much that I want to say about this book and the trilogy. First of all, contrary to what the book flaps, summary and other reviews say, the real hero of the story is not Sam Roth but COLE ST. CLAIR. He manages to find the antidote to being a wolf, gave Sam & Grace a chance to have a normal life or some semblance of it and he saved Sam and the pack's lives in the end. How more heroic can you get?! But I understand that it's a sob love story and Sam is the perfect empathic boyfriend. Though I still believe that Maggie is Isabel so no surprise that the pretty girl gets the gorgeous and super smart rocker. Duh!

Cole St. Clair
They've probably cast someone for the role
since Stiefvater snagged a movie deal as well.
But in my mind, Luke Grimes is Cole.
I enjoyed Cole and Isabel's story more than Sam and Grace's. Their love hate relationship is the complete opposite of Sam and Grace's dreary tale. Plus I like that these two "airheads" got some serious grey matter between their ears. If not for their experiments Sam and Grace would just be another episode of Animal Planet.

Going back to our lovers, I guess it's because the gravity of the situation finally hit and there's no way but downhill for Sam and Grace relationship wise, the consequences of their choices finally caught up with them. Grace left her parents in a frenzy between her illness, pent up issues and her relationship with Sam. Now that she's gone MIA, Sam is left to carry the burden of that plus being suspected of abduction and other heinous things. And Beck's absence didn't help matters either.

Speaking of Beck, I had to grab some Kleenex when Cole brought him back AND when he got gunned down during the escape. The father and son relationship really spoke volumes to me more than Sam and Grace's. Plus Cole putting himself on the line to save the pack, totally heroic though very Cole in the sense that he has sort of a complex being a rock star and really gorgeous. Doesn't deter me from loving his character though. Damaged, yup always gets to us girls no matter how hard we try to steer away from their kind.

Anyway, there are unfortunately some parallelisms with Twilight BUT before the violent reactions let me justify that comment. Parallel in terms of Grace being persistent about her relationship with Sam, parents be damned! Though Stiefvater corrected that towards the end and the premise given about absentee parents was the perfect excuse. Still it brings back bitter memories about Bella Swan and her poor father who had to put up with all her shiznit with Glitter and Glamour (literally) that is Edward Cullen, Jacob Black and his pack are Twilight's only saving grace. And the most similar characteristic is how impossible their relationship seem. I almost thought that Stiefvater will come unscathed from the Twilight stigma but in my opinion when the heroes went into the deep end and made their relationship bigger and more important than anything else, that did it for me. Sorry! But that's where the similarities end, plus the fact that I'm so into Weres which makes it more bearable than those superhero vamps. I'll take 'em warm bloods anytime. So I still encourage you to read the trilogy though be warned that Forever is heavy.

As for the movie, the latest news is Nick Pustay (Ramona and Beezus, Camille) will be writing the screenplay. No updates on casting or anything like that, I think it's either they're really keeping it under wraps or they had some production speed bumps which might delay the 2012 release date. So to tidy us over a bit, you can see Maggie Stiefvater's dream cast here.
