Redemption isn’t a word Jim Heron knows much about—his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charge with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. And failure is not an option. Vin DiPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he’s good with that — until fate intervenes in the form of a tough- talking, Harley-riding, self-professed savior. But then he meets a woman who will make him question his destiny, his sanity, and his heart—and he has to work with a fallen angel to win her over and redeem his own soul.

After reading The Black Dagger Brotherhood, I am so looking forward to J.R. Ward's The Fallen Angels primarily because I love her men! And she didn't disappoint with this one so if you liked BDB I'm sure you'll love this one too.

The series is also set in Caldwell, NY but instead of vamps we will be embroiled in the world of Fallen Angels and human affairs. Jim Heron is the main protagonist of the series. He's this blue-collar 40yo guy with a shady background who's trying to start fresh until he got electrocuted and died. He went to heaven and met these four angels who sent him back on a mission. He needs to save 7 souls from the hands of the enemy, 7 souls who will fall prey to the Seven Deadly Sins unless he saves them.

His first soul is Vin DiPietro, your typical man on the pinnacle of his game, surrounded by pretty things, including women, that money can buy. But Vin is in a crossroads when he met Marie-Therese, yup BDB Rhevenge's classiest working girl, who incidentally wants out of the trade.

Their story is like Pretty Woman with dark undertones and not everybody is who they seem to be. I know that the thread of Vin and Marie-Therese's love story is not original, a rich, bored, handsome man falling in-love with a prostitute who is running away from her past for the sake of her son. But their story is actually heartwarming and although it's written on the traditional pink ink of romance, it's not mushy. It's evident in those sexy scenes that Marie-Therese's past haunts her and puts a dampen on their otherwise fairytale romance and Vin is forced to face this reality about her the way you'd expect a decent man who's in love will. I actually liked these scenes not just for the steaminess but because it's real and it's what one will expect will actually happen if you know these people. Ward doesn't have rose tainted lenses in those glasses she weares.

One thing I like about J.R. Ward's writing is how the POV shifts on those crucial situations. Although still written on the 3rd person, the perspective shifts between characters so you have the intel all the time. Nothing is implied on those important scenes, we know what's going on in each character's mind and it's consistent even on the BDB novels. Another reason why I'm sure I'll be hooked on this series plus the fact that I'm curious about her Angel Myth and what form it'll take on as the series progress.

And Jim Heron is so enigmatic I want to see where this journey takes him and what demons will he be fighting to survive. J.R. Ward s series is always so intriguing that my mind is still turning long after I've put down COVET.

  1. Well Crap! I still have the BDB series on my "to read" list and now I have to add this too. i either need to escape for a few weeks to catch up on all my reading or i need to read faster.

  2. you know what, start with this one so it won't be overwhelming. the series is only on its third book.

  3. @Cimmaron - Braine is right, start with this first. It is only two in a series so far. It is set in the same city and all and there are a bit of crossovers, but you won't be lost. Trust me. I started this series while I was in the middle of the BDB series.

Great review hon. I loved this book. I loved how the story progresses. I was at a loss of where the book would go, it really kept me on my seat. Can't wait to see what you think of book 2 :) Thanks hon.
