Citrus O

Out of sheer curiousity my sister and I decided to order some real Tru Blood online. It's a little bit pricey as it's only available online. It's $16 for four bottles plus shipping.

My first try was a virgin, it's not as thick as some might imagine nor is the color a deep red since it's just orange flavored soda. What comes to mind was that Thai boy that was fed tangerines for weeks to give off that citrus flavor that Talbot was boasting about at the dinner table. The kick is the 50mg of caffeine and I'm guessing that it's to mimic the boost of "energy" that vampires feel after feeding on blood though synthetic.

I have yet to try mine with alcohol but I've already looked up a couple of cocktail recipes for future use.

The Fangbanger: ½ ounce of Galliano, 1 ½ ounces of Vodka, 2 ounces of Tru Blood.
Mix vodka and orange juice in a collins glass with ice cubes. Stir well, and float the Galliano on top. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.

Death On The Beach: 1 ½ ounces of Peach Schnapps, 1 ½ ounces of Vodka, 2 ounces of orange juice, 2 ounces of pineapple juice, 2 ounces of Tru Blood.
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a highball glass filled with ice.

Plasmapolitan: 1 ounce Cointreau, 1 ounce Vodka, 1 dash of fresh lime juice, fill with Tru Blood.
Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with an orange twist.

Undead Experience: 1 part Jagermeister, 1 part Triple Sec, 2 parts Vodka, 1 dash Bitters (Angostura), and fill with Tru Blood.
Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into glass. Very potent.

  1. This was an awesome post hahaha. I am going to try your concoctions!

  2. There was some promo thing that HBO did before the start of last season where in different cities they showed the premier and a video of a the writers, producers talking about the show, that part is not important, the important part os that they sold the bottled "blood" there. I didn't like it, like you said it's just like super sweet Orange soda. way not worth the cost.
